What Would Your Dog Do With Thumbs?

Dogs don’t have thumbs… have you ever wondered why? Well, you can rest assured it’s not to keep them from hitchhiking across the country. Dogs, like cats, have dew claws…a non-opposable styled thumb of sorts. Have you ever wondered what would your dog do with thumbs?

To text…hello! No, that’s not it. Humans have thumbs to grasp things. Mostly we grasp things that we end up hurting ourselves with. Like hammers. Or paper…don’t judge, a paper cut hurts! Theoretically, thumbs are what separate humans from most other species. Here’s one thing thumbs don’t give humans – compassion.

What Would Your Dog Do With Thumbs?

Rule the world? Nope. Dogs being the naturally compassionate and loving creatures that they are, they would likely solve many of the ills that we, as thumb-wielding Gods, have yet to solve. Dogs would build shelters for the homeless, tuck in a sick child, feed an elderly Alzheimer’s patient. Dogs with thumbs would definitely lead us all towards a more caring and loving world.

What Can You Do With Your Thumbs?

What Would Your Dog Do With Thumbs? A great article that helps us understand the power of a compassionate thumb! Article by Rebecca Sanchez, The Pet Lifestyle Guru at MattieDogThumbs have a lot of power. Use your thumb’s power for good! Go ahead, you can use your big old thumb to download a free mobile app and helps raise funds for animals in need! Heck, we have to walk our dogs every day, two times a day, so when we learned about these great philanthropic apps that support animal charities – we were all in. ResQwalk and Walk for a Dog by WoofTrax apps both give you the power to raise money for animal welfare organizations, simply by walking. The fine people of ResQwalk and WoofTrax partner with kindhearted corporate sponsors who donate money, and every time you walk, just flip on your app of choice and viola – you are helping to raise money for critters! Just make sure you stretch out your thumb before you download one or both of these apps…wouldn’t want you to hurt yourself before you start walking.

Thumbs Can Save Lives

What Would Your Dog Do With Thumbs? A great article that helps us understand the power of a compassionate thumb! Article by Rebecca Sanchez, The Pet Lifestyle Guru at MattieDogSo your not an emergency med tech. I get it, they do have cool jobs, saving lives with their knowledge, training and thumbs. But hey, so can you! Just download these apps, lace up your tennies, leash up your pups and get to walking – there you go, you are a life saver! Thanks to generous sponsors and fabulous app builders – all you have to do is walk – each step you take helps change the life of an animal in need. Oh, and I forgot one thing… if dogs had thumbs they would likely tear open their own treat bags. Heck, they might even take up cooking or become raw food chefs and make their own meals! I would be okay with that, I think Mattie would be a good chef – he has great taste already. He likes peanut butter, bananas, blueberries, sweet potatoes, carrots and green beans. I think I’d let Mattie cook for me… I wonder when dogs will grow thumbs? They sure would help make the world a much better place!

Until next time – take care and keep on lovin’ your dog!

I could only imagine what my dogs would do with thumbs! I’m sure they would do good, they have hearts of gold!

    • We’re convinced that if dogs had thumbs would open food packages as well as save the world – I guess that would be okay!

  7. Great post! I would hope that if my dogs had thumbs they would use them for good but I think they’d probably just use them to open food containers! LOL!

I love the dog walking app and use it all the time! 😀

  8. We’ve been using the Walk for a Dog app for awhile and love it! I’m not a big app person but this is one I use almost daily.

I think if my dog Kitsune had thumbs he’d spend most of his time eating. Think of all the food containers he could open that he can’t now! My other pup, Fenrir, isn’t as food motivated. I dunno about him…I think he just might try to rule the world!

  9. Thumbs are pretty awesome – although for cats that would probably mean a 24/7 buffet and them helping themselves from the fridge! LOL

  18. Great post. Will be checking out these apps! So, if my Huskies had thumbs… 1) grab the treat bags. 2)Open the gate and let themselves out for a run in the large side of the yard. and 3) Use the remote to turn off the TV because the lights are keeping them awake! 😉

  20. So true. It is easy to find apps, or in our case YouTube videos, websites and other mobile or online options where it costs you nothing but a few seconds or minutes to support animals in need. Kilo would not be that noble if he had thumbs I don’t think- just thinking about food.

    Reply
    • Aw, Kilo – that’s okay, sometimes you just have to eat!

  23. Mom Kim here – I am one of those rare persons whose cell phone doesn’t do apps – would love to switch but funds aren’t there. I know Angel Shiloh would have loved to have thumbs – open treat bags, get any food he wanted anytime he wanted, dial the phone, use the keyboard to order his own treats and any kind of food he wanted, use a key to unlock the gates so he could wander through the neighborhood whenever he wanted. But Angel Shiloh loved his therapy dog work so he would have been out visiting whenever there was a need – he also loved the little children who read to him – he’d be doing that whenever needed. Now Lady Shasta, also trained for therapy work – she has not had the exposure Angel Shiloh did but she is also more sensitive than he was so I am sure she would want to eventually get into that more. And since she is also a Beagle like Angel Shiloh, all the food stuff goes for her too.

    • I bet Angel Shiloh would have loved having thumbs and apps – ordering delivery food is fun! You, Angel Shiloh and Lady Shasta are so amazing – thank you for helping through therapy work! Blessings 🙂
