OMG I Have Tempupshi – And You Could Too!

Eek! You know that feeling, it starts out as a small little ache. That little bit of pain, for which there is no name, that hits between lunch and dinner. Oh sure, when it happens between breakfast and lunch, you call it brunch! Makes sense, right? But when it happens later in the day, what do you call it? Linner? Dunch? No, those names are nonsensical…not magical like brunch. Regardless of the name, you’re hungry and so is your dog…staring up at you with his big brown eyes. Now what to do, you have to create a little bit of linner for two? OMG, I have tempupshi – and you could too!

Cooking With Your Dog

Follow us here at MattieDog long enough and you’ll learn a few things about who we are and the things we enjoy. Social media superstar, animal advocate, author, pet lifestyle guru – all true, and we also have a little pastime where we cook with and for our dogs! We enjoy incorporating a little bit of homemade nourishment into our lifestyle by creating tasty treats good enough for humans and dogs alike! We’re vegans, and while our dogs are not, when we cook sharable goodies we rely on vegan ingredients. So, in response to grumbling tummies and begging eyeballs, I made tempupshi – a tempeh-based, protein packed sushi snack good enough for my husband and our Shih Tzu’s.

A tasty tempeh-based sushi that you can make in a jiffy, and easily share with your pup! Tempupshi is a mighty tasty treat that you and Fido can enjoy as a shared snack every now and again. I slice the tempupshi roll into six (6) even pieces and enjoy four (4) and give one (1) bite size pieces to each of our two 14 pound pups. Instructions
  1. Sushi: To ensure the best, tasty treats, use all organic/non-GMO ingredients. Very thinly chomp and or crumble tempeh and dry roast on the stove until nutty brown. Thinly chop red bell pepper and place it and the mayo in food processor and mix until smooth. Incorporate cooled and crumbled tempeh into red pepper mayo and throughly mix. Place one sheet of nori on a sushi mat and leaving a little over an each pace around the edges, smoothly and evenly spread rice on top of the nori, leaving an inch or two on one side uncovered. Spread red pepper, mayo, tempeh mixture evenly on top of the rice, and top with the tiny pieces of sweet potato and peels of carrot. Tightly roll sushi in to a roll and using a very sharp knife, slice into six pieces.

  2. Dipping Sauce: In a blender mix together the nama shoyu, orange juice and the very small piece of date. Make sure all ingredients are well mixed and the date piece has been fully incorporated. This really is an art versus science. Start out with a small amount of each and add to flavor. Dip sushi pieces in sauce prior to eating.

  5. I’d buy this because I’d love the idea of dog sushi only because it sounds a bit over the top (and nothing is too good for my pets). Not sure if I’d make it … a lot of effort. Why not pepper for dogs? I knew no onions, but pepper too?

    • It tastes really good – somewhat similar to a California roll yet different enough to have it’s own style! The sweet potatoes and tempeh come together nicely with the sauce!
