Virbac is not responsible for the content of this article: Parasites Can Be A Pain In The Rump….Literally! #SentinelSpectrum  Most of you know that we live in Seattle in the great state of Washington. It’s a really cool place to live – home to the sparkling Puget Sound, one of the largest ocean inlets in the world, glorious peak-filled mountains, and millions of acres of national and state land. We often take the long drive from Seattle through the North Cascade mountains to visit the Methow Valley. The ‘Methow’ is amaze-balls – it feels like home to our family, nestled in the mountains with numerous glacial-filled rivers for salmon fishing, and thousands of miles of trails for riding horses and skijoring. Nature Is Glorious, and Wild – So Keep Your Pups Protected With #SentinelSpectrum Traveling as much as we do, we rely on year-around parasite protection to help keep our pups healthy – you just can’t be too careful when your goofball, long-haired Shih Tzu’s like to play in rivers and stroll along the trails that often have wildlife critter scat and deer, cow and horse ‘dumps’ strewn, well, wherever wildlife like to roam. Hey, it’s nature – it’s not like you can just pick...

The advancements made in dietary supplements are immense – both for humans and for pets. Everyday, without fail, I faithfully take my minerals and vitamin B12, swallowing them down with a nice cool glass of lemon or cucumber infused water – all of this helps me feel ready to take on the day. My dogs, all four of them, stare at me while I’m enjoying my tasty drink and my health-packed goodies…and I feel a bit guilty. I feed them a quality, mostly raw food diet, but I also want to ensure that they get enough Omega-3. So just to be sure… I decided to search out some great natural pet supplements for optimal animal health. Enter stage right: NOW® Pets dietary supplements Putting The Wag In Our Dogs Tail #NOWpetsSweeps NOW Pets is a new line of quality pet supplements from NOW®, specifically formulated to support optimal health and wellness for dogs and cats. We here at MattieDog® only share information we feel is relevant to you, our readers. CANIDAE is not responsible for the content of this article. Lately, we’ve been doing a lot of research to find a variety of quality dog foods for our pups. Quality to us means healthy, nutritious, as close to farm-to-table as possible, and yummy to our dogs. While many people think that dogs will eat anything, that’s often not true – and it’s certainly not true with our little girl, Lulu. Lulu has the oddest of tummies, and she requires proteins that are a bit more exotic, otherwise we’re likely guaranteed to see a bit of up-chuck. Oh, don’t be fooled – being a pet parent isn’t all glamour and mutt struts. When we were introduced to CANIDAE® we were very interested to learn more – we dug what read, and that CANIDAE is Pet Food Made By Pet People™! Why CANIDAE? Just like Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer said to his would be dentist buddy, in-de-pen-dent! CANIDAE is an independent, family-owned pet food company that was started 1996. That’s a very long time in the pet-food industry, you have to applaud Scott and John for keeping things real, and focused on one thing: a healthy pet food. Sounds simple doesn’t it? Well, it is...

Virbac is not responsible for the content of this article: Parasites are a bummer-stop bugging! #SentinelSpectrum Parasites…. they are a bummer! Most people easily recognize the standard parasites, fleas and heartworm and the like, but did you know that the 6 most common ones aren’t easily treated with one product? Six types of parasites you say? Yikes! Yup, grosserito – these include: the two mentioned above, plus hookworm, roundworm, tapeworm and whipworm. That’s a lot of worms! With one monthly beef or bacon flavored chew you can protect your pup against these potentially serious and health altering buggers! So yes, parasites are a bummer-stop bugging, have a chat with your dog’s veterinarian about Sentinel® Spectrum®. What Makes Sentinel Spectrum So Earth Shattering? While there are other flavored chew-based products, Sentinel Spectrum has taken a great approach to parasite prevention. Each little tasty chew is intelligent in its’ approach to defending your pet inside and out: treating immature (no, not like Wayne’s World immature) heartworm larva and preventing them from turning into adult worms. It protects against several other common types of worms as it stops the invader at the source, halting the maturation that can occur in your dog’s heart or lungs (heartworms) as well as...

Love Is Grand When Its Fuzzy and One Foot Tall! #LoveYourPetEveryDay

MattieDog® a proud member of the BlogPaws® Professional Pet Blogger Network and we use all proceeds for helping create Brand awareness to aid animal welfare, adoption and spay and neuter programs. This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Chicken Soup. The opinions and text are all mine and comments submitted may be displayed on other websites owned by the sponsoring brand. We hope you enjoy, Love Is Grand When It’s Fuzzy and One Foot Tall!#LoveYourPetEveryDay Back in November our book, “MattieDog Gets Adopted,’ was published. The book tells the story of pet adoption from a dog’s point of view. When we adopted Mattie two sad events came together to create a confluence of love. Mattie, a little one year old Shih Tzu, was somehow left on his own to make his way in this world…and he got pretty far – for about a week. I was recovering from a traumatic event, just beginning to feel less fragile. We met in an animal shelter, and I fell in love with Mattie…all 14 stinky, filthy, matted pounds of him! I’m sure I didn’t look too great to Mattie either…probably a bit shabby with my hair tucked under my baseball cap. But when you love a dog….these things don’t matter. Ain’t love grand when it’s fuzzy and one foot tall! Back then I was a nervous, new pet parent – Mattie was our first adoption. Since then we’ve taken in many other dogs, everything from pup to senior, we’ve provided hospice care to dying dogs, trained deaf and blind dogs, and even adopted ex-show dogs. Through it all our dogs and...
My 14 Pound Spiritual Muse #MyPetIsMyHero

My 14 Pound Spiritual Muse #MyPetIsMyHero

Do you have a muse? If you don’t, you really should…a muse can take you from living your life to rocking your life! Why all of this muse talk, where is this coming from? It started with a discussion I was having with friends where one of them asked, “is your dog your hero?”  As an explorer of the human-animal bond, I adore these types of questions….actually, I encourage these types of questions. The answer to the question, ‘is your dog your hero,’ is yes – he is my muse and quite simply, he is also my hero. Mattie has given me the gift of joy, kindness, selflessness and the art of forgiving.  Mattie is my 14 pound spiritual muse, #MyPetIsMyHero!   Recently, I learned about Chicken Soup for the Soul Pet Food commitment to celebrating the very special connection that exists between humans and their animals. They are highlighting some of these special pet-based relationships on their new TV show, Hidden Heroes  and this made me wonder what specifically has created this bond between myself and my special, little fuzzy one. While I’ve published a book about Mattie’s adoption, and even written a blog posting remembering the day we found him, I’m not sure if I’ve shared with you the deep connection I feel when I look in to his eyes…or when I hold him close, or kiss him on his wet, cool nose. I love Mattie more than any woven together words can describe, but I’ll give it a try. When Mattie came in to my life I was recovering from a trauma….physically I was healed, emotionally I was not. And on the day that we brought Mattie home,...
