Buy a Bag and PetSmart Will Give a Meal to Needy Animals!

Today PetSmart® announced the launch of its new “Buy a Bag, Give a Meal™” program, where for every bag of dog or cat food purchased online and at all its 1,500-plus stores across the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico, the leading pet specialty retailer will donate a meal to a pet in need. The program runs March 1-Dec. 31, 2017, and PetSmart expects to donate more than 60 million meals! To read the full PetSmart “Buy a Bag, Give a Meal” press release, go here.

PetSmart? Yup, PetSmart – Go to One Near You & Buy Some Pet Food Today!

“At PetSmart we love pets and we believe they make us better people. To celebrate our 30 years of continued commitment to helping pets in need every day and as a trusted partner to pet parents everywhere, we want to celebrate by giving back even more,” said Eran Cohen, chief customer experience officer, PetSmart. “Throughout 2017, every time pet parents purchase any bag of dog or cat food in our stores or online, they can rest assured they are also helping feed pets in need. When their pets eat, pets in need eat, too. It’s that simple.”

Buy A Bag of Pet Food and PetSmart Will Give A Bag To Animals In Need

This is made possible through the PetSmart Buy A Bag, Give A Meal program and will help thousands, if not millions of pets who enter shelters every year who are waiting for their forever homes (read: How to Write a Killer Adoption Letter to Get the Dog of Your Dreams for more info). While waiting, these animals rely on rescue groups, shelters, and foster to help keep them alive, safe and fed. In order to relieve the burden of food costs PetSmart is giving back, helping those organizations who put animals, our pets, first.

Factoid: According to a recent PetSmart Charities survey involving nearly 1,800 of its animal welfare partners across North America, only 20 percent of these organizations receive pet food donations and about 8 percent are on contract with pet food brands to receive subsidized pet food.

Also, this program helps pets who are a part of family where money is tight. Many food banks do not offer pet food, and that puts families in a bind – feed the kids or feed the dog. Most stretch their money and provide as best they can. PetSmart would like to help these people and pets by helping to ensure that they have quality and nutritious pet food available for their furry family member!

How Can You Get Involved?

Buy a bag of dry cat food or dry dog food at a PetSmart store, or online at PetSmart.com or PetSmart.ca between March 1, 2017 to December 31, 2017. That’s it, the rest is left in the good hands of PetSmart! PetSmart will donate a meal (5 oz dog food or 1.5 oz cat food) to PetSmart Charities or PetSmart Charities of Canada to help feed cats and dogs in need. Donations will be distributed to various pet shelters, animal welfare organizations, food banks or other similar organizations that provide assistance to pets in need. 10. Any kind of food? Today we bought some frozen raw 😉 If this applies to any bag of any food, that is a great idea so people aren’t forced to buy food they don’t want to feed and yet help.
