This Shih Tzu Loves to Go Hiking

Little paws, like those found on Shih Tzu’s, enjoy a good morning stroll around the neighborhood. But wait a minute, I’ve got news for everyone….this Shih Tzu loves to go hiking – it’s not just for big dogs anymore! Yes indeedy, lace up your hiking boots and grab your walking stick and join me on my little journey and I’ll share some little dog hiking tips with you. Tip Number One: Grooming! No, not your human – although it would be nice if your human looked presentable while out on your hike. But for little dogs it’s really good, and if you have a Shih Tzu (like me) it’s truly important to groom him/her prior to going for a hike. Why? Well, you don’t want your Shih Tzu to come back from a hike looking like squirrels took up residency in your dog’s fur, now do you? Brush, brush, brush – and get the undercoat too. But that’s not all, peek in between our little toes – make sure that we’re all good and clean in there and gently pull out any weeds or sticks or other toe jam stuff. For eyes/top knots, make sure our fur is tucked in a scrunchie or dog hair clip and out of our face; and just give us a general once over to ensure we’re all ready for our hike. Tip Number Two: Water and Treats! DOG for DOG Does Good for Dogs

Have you heard of the DOG for DOG company? It’s a grass-roots styled group that truly wants to make the world a better place for dogs. I met with the DOG for DOG people, including founder Rocky Kanaka, when I attended the annual BlogPaws conference. I learned that DOG for DOG does good for dogs – and here’s how: For every bag of dog food that is purchased the good people of DOG for DOG donates one equal bag to a dog/shelter in need. It doesn’t get much better than that – it’s a one-for-one give program to help promote good nutrition for animals that may otherwise not get the food they need. Additionally, during the month of June, DOG for DOG is running an awesome Instagram campaign. Take a picture of your dog’s paw and include the hasghtag #DOGforDOGpaws and Rocky and his team will donate a meal to a shelter dog. I talk more about the great work that DOG for DOG is doing in my Anipal Times article, check it out here. Thanks Rocky and DOG for DOG for all that you do!
